Privacy Policy

Last updated 21 September 2026

TrigPointer is an app for discovering, exploring and logging trig points.

This Privacy Policy explains what personal information TrigPointer collects, why we use it, who we share it with and the choices you have.

For the purposes of UK data protection law, TrigPointer is operated by Harvey Woods trading as TrigPointer, based in the United Kingdom, and is the controller of personal information processed through the service.

You can contact us about privacy at privacy@trigpointer.com.

Also see our Terms of Service.

01Information we collect

Account information

When you create a TrigPointer account, we may collect information such as your email address, name or username, profile information and authentication details.

Authentication is provided using Clerk.

If you choose Sign in with Apple, we receive the information Apple makes available to us, which may include your Apple account identifier, name and email address. Apple may provide a private relay email address if you choose to hide your email.

We do not receive your Apple password.

Your trig activity

When you use TrigPointer, we store information necessary to provide your account and activity history. This can include:

  • trig points you have marked as found or visited
  • the date or time associated with a find
  • notes and photos you choose to add
  • challenges, achievements or awards associated with your activity
  • activity and account preferences

This allows your trig collection to remain associated with your account and available when you sign in on another device or update the app.

Location information

TrigPointer can use your device's location to show trig points near you and provide location-based functionality.

Location access is optional and is requested through Apple's system permission controls.

TrigPointer currently requests location while you are using the app. We do not request background location access and we do not use TrigPointer to continuously track your movements.

If you do not grant location permission, you can still explore trig points manually using the map and search features, although some nearby-location features may not work.

You can withdraw location permission at any time through your device settings.

The position of a trig point you log, together with information associated with that find, may form part of your activity history. We do not intend to create a continuous GPS history of your movements unless a future feature clearly explains that functionality to you first.

Photos and other content

If you choose to upload a photograph, note, Community post or other content, we process that content so that we can provide the relevant feature.

TrigPointer only receives photos that you choose to provide to the app.

If Community functionality allows information to be visible to other users, content that you choose to publish may be visible to those users.

Please avoid including sensitive personal information about yourself or other people in public content.

Subscriptions

Some TrigPointer features require a paid subscription.

Payments made through the iOS app are processed by Apple through the App Store. TrigPointer does not receive or store your complete payment-card details.

We use RevenueCat to manage subscription entitlements and determine whether your account currently has access to premium features. RevenueCat may process information such as subscription product, purchase status, renewal status and identifiers necessary to associate your purchase with the app.

Technical and diagnostic information

We collect limited technical information necessary to operate, secure and improve TrigPointer.

This may include information such as:

  • device and operating-system information
  • app version
  • IP address and network information
  • error and crash information
  • performance information
  • account or user identifiers associated with an error
  • interactions leading up to an error

We currently use Sentry for crash reporting, diagnostics and application monitoring. Sentry may receive diagnostic information and, where session-replay functionality is enabled, information about interactions with the application that helps us investigate problems.

We use this information to identify crashes, investigate bugs, prevent abuse and improve the reliability of TrigPointer.

02How we use your information

We use personal information to provide and operate TrigPointer, authenticate your account, save and display your trig finds, provide location-dependent functionality you request, provide Community and profile functionality, manage subscriptions, provide customer support, maintain security, diagnose technical problems and improve the service.

We do not sell your personal information to advertisers.

TrigPointer does not currently use your precise location for advertising.

04Services that process information for us

TrigPointer relies on specialist service providers to operate the app.

These currently include:

  • Clerk — account authentication and user identity.
  • Convex — application backend, database and file storage.
  • RevenueCat — subscription entitlement and purchase-status management.
  • Sentry — crash reporting, performance monitoring and diagnostics.
  • Apple — App Store distribution and purchases, Sign in with Apple where selected by the user, and iOS permission functionality.

These providers process information according to their own contractual and privacy obligations and only receive information relevant to the services they provide.

We may also disclose information where required by law or where reasonably necessary to protect users, investigate fraud or misuse, enforce our Terms, or protect our legal rights.

05International transfers

Some of our service providers operate internationally and personal information may therefore be processed outside the United Kingdom.

Where UK data protection law requires safeguards for an international transfer, we rely on appropriate mechanisms such as applicable adequacy regulations, contractual safeguards or other lawful transfer mechanisms provided by our service providers.

You can contact us if you would like more information about international transfers relating to your information.

06How long we keep information

We generally keep your account and associated TrigPointer data while your account remains active and for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the service.

When you delete your account, TrigPointer deletes personal information associated with the account from our active systems except where information must be retained for legal, security, fraud-prevention or other legitimate reasons.

Some information may remain temporarily in logs, backups or systems operated by our service providers until their normal retention periods expire.

Information relating to purchases may also be retained where necessary for accounting, tax, fraud-prevention or legal purposes.

07Deleting your account

You can permanently delete your TrigPointer account from within the app by going to:

Profile → Delete Account

You will be asked to confirm the deletion before it takes place.

Account deletion removes your TrigPointer account and associated personal data held by us, subject to the limited retention described above.

Deleting your TrigPointer account does not automatically cancel an active Apple App Store subscription. App Store subscriptions are managed separately by Apple and should be cancelled through your Apple subscription settings.

08Your rights

Depending on your circumstances, UK data protection law gives you rights over your personal information. These may include the right to request access to your information, correct inaccurate information, request deletion, restrict certain processing, object to certain processing, receive certain information in a portable format and withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

You can exercise these rights by contacting privacy@trigpointer.com.

You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) if you believe your personal information has been handled improperly.

09Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal information against unauthorised access, loss, alteration or disclosure.

No internet service can guarantee absolute security, so you should also protect your account credentials and tell us if you believe somebody has gained unauthorised access to your account.

10Children

TrigPointer is not intended for children under the age of 13 to create and operate an account independently.

If you are under 13, you should not create a TrigPointer account yourself.

If you are under 18, you should use TrigPointer with the knowledge and permission of a parent or guardian, particularly when undertaking outdoor activities.

If we become aware that personal information has been collected from a child in circumstances where it should not have been, please contact us so that we can take appropriate action.

11Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as TrigPointer changes or as legal and regulatory requirements change.

The latest version will always be available on this page and the "Last updated" date will identify when it was most recently changed.

Where an update materially affects how we use your information, we will take reasonable steps to bring that change to your attention.
